EU Visa charge for UK tourists to be delayed until late 2023

UK residents planning to visit Disneyland Paris will be happy to know that the new visa-waiver is being delayed until late 2023. Originally scheduled to start operating at the end of 2022, then May 2023, the European Commission published the latest delay and start date on its website, without providing a reason for the delay.

What is the EU Visa Waiver?

Etias, which is modelled on the US Esta scheme, means non-EU travellers will have to fill in a form and pay €7 (£5.91) before entering Europe’s passport-free zone. The €7 fee (around £5.92) will apply to everyone aged between 18 and 70 and is valid for multiple visits over three years.

ETIAS stands for European Travel Information and Authorisation System. It is a form of electronic travel authorisation, also known as a visa waiver. From November 2023, non-EU visitors travelling to the Schengen Area without a visa will be able to obtain an ETIAS travel authorisation.

The EU has decided to implement ETIAS to improve the safety of all those within its borders. The EU began the legal procedures for introducing ETIAS in 2016, though it will not come into effect until November 2023.
